Description: 

Leaves in 2s, to 2" long, shiny dark green above and silvery-white below. Cones cylindrical to 7" long, purple when immature. Crown broadly conical. Branches horizontally spreading.

History: 

Native to Afghanistan, China, India and Nepal. Introduced in 1882.

Published in Mém. Mus. Hist. Nat. 13: 70 in 1825.

Basionym: Pinus spectabilis D.Don - published in Desc. Pinus.

RHS Award of merit in 1974.
