Description: 

Snake-like bark - green and white striations. Leaves shiny, dark green, ovate, opposite, to 6" long, serrated margins. Often multi-trunked.

History: 

Published in Nouv. Arch. Mus. Hist. Nat. 2: 8: 212 in 1885.

Native to China.

Introduced in 1879 by Charles Maries, having been discovered in 1869 by Jean Pierre Armand David, a Jesuit missionary.
