Description: 

Oval to rounded form. Grown for its peeling bark which has an orange red color. Opposite trifoliate leaves, leaflets to 2.5" long, coarsely toothed. Good autumn color (red), especially if grown in full sun. Tolerates clay soil.

History: 

Published in Pflanzenr. (Engler) 4: 163: 30 in 1902.

Basionym Acer nikoense var. griseum Franch.

Introduced in 1901.
