Dwarf mounding form. Leaves deeply cut, 9 to 11 lobes with red in autumn. Red flowers with yellow anthers before the leaves in late winter to early spring, in drooping clusters. Moist well-drained soil, sheltered from cold winds.
Cultivated since 1888.
RHS Award of garden merit in 2002.
Differing heights (to 50') are listed suggesting (by Dirr) that there is more than one clone with this name.
