Description: 

Rounded crown. 3 to 5 loves on the leaves, lobes triangular, wavy margins, green above, yellow-grey below, downy underneath - ID characteristic. Yellow autumn color. Light colored bark gives the tree its common name - chalk. Well-drained soil.

History: 

Native from Florida to Virginia.

Published in Brittonia 7: 384 in 1952.

"Leucodermis" = having white skin referring to the chalk colored bark.
