Published in: Sp. Pl. 2: 896. 1753.

Other: Named for Achilles, warrior in the Trojan wars, whose tutor (Chiron the Centaur - half man and half horse) taught him the healing properties of this plant. From a design perspective, Piet Oudolf considers them important because of their pancake-like flower heads with are indispensable among spike and cluster-shaped inflorescences. Lectotype: A. millefolium L. (Prop. Brit. Bot. 182. 1929. M.L.Green.)
