Description: 

Stiff, erect foliage, alternate. Spreads by rhizomes. Roots can be 20' below the surface. Sandy soil. Prevents erosion - dune stabilizer on the east coast. Warm season grass.

'Cape' - from Cape Cod, MA, north half of coast

'Hatteras' - southern east coast

History: 

Native to the east coast of North America.
