Alternate leaves, simple to 8" long and 6" wide. Flowers in terminal panicles to 8" long. Edible fruit.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 383 in 1753. Reference is made to Catesby's Natural History Appendix Plate 9.

Native from Mexico and the West Indies, to Brazil and Peru.
