Description: 

Clump forming warm season grass. Upright, green in summer but bronzing at the end of the summer and into autumn when it flowers. Prefers dry sandy soils. Cut stems to the ground in late winter.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 2: 1046 in 1753.

Native to North America, the Caribbean, Columbia and northern South America.
