Description: 

Low-branched tree. Deciduous for a short time before flowering. Alternate leaves to 6" long and 3.5" wide, velvet-like underneath. Hairy petiole.

History: 

Published in Gard. Dict., ed. 8 in 1768. Annona with very broad smooth leaves, oblong scaly fruit, and very shining seeds.

Native to Ecuador and Peru.

Ewan (1974) identified Catesby's Natural History Volume II plate 67 as A. cherimola but Howard & Staples, Wilbur (1990) and Reveal (2009) are agreed that it is actually Annona glabra L.
