Description: 

Evergreen fronds, less divided than Arachniodes aristata.

History: 

Native to Japan and China. Introduced and naturalized in South Carolina, known from a single population there.

Published in J. Jap. Bot. 37:76 in 1962.

Basionym Aspidium aristatum var. simplicior Makino.

Named "simpler" because it was considered to be simpler than Arachniodes aristata of which it was originally considered to be a variety.
