Description: 

Evergreen groundcover. Pink flowers in spring and red berries in winter. Dark green glossy leaves. Prefers cool moist soil, well-drained. Spreads by suckeres but not aggressively.

'Andre the Giant' - very large berries

'Ito Fukurin' - silvery-green leaf edged in white

History: 

Native to China, Japan, Korea and South Taiwan.

Introduced to cultivation in 1834.

Published in Bijdr. Fl. Ned. Ind. 13: 690 in 1826.
