Description: 

Thick clumps of long stiff evergreen leaves with blue flower spikes above. Up to 100 flowers per stem, each with 6 blue petals and yellow anthers. Well-drained soil.

History: 

Published in Bot. Mag. 17: 605 in 1802.

Synonym Aristea major Andrews, published in Bot. Repos. 3: 160 in 1801.

Found by Thunberg near Cape Town. Introduced from seed in 1784 in the UK.
