Description: 

Rhizomatous, warm season grass. Upright stems and coarse leaves growing out horizontally along the vertical stems. Flowers in late summer with a pinkish bloom fading to beige. Divide in spring. Cut to the ground in winter when the leaves and stems become tattered. Does well in moist soils, even standing water once established. Evergreen in frost-free climates.

Cultivars: 

'Variegata' ('Versicolor') - striped cream-green and dark green leaves, browns out in hot sun more than 'Peppermint Stick'

'Macropylla' - leaves broader

Native to the Mediterranean.
