My Experience:

I purchased a 1-gallon plant at Nurseries Caroliniana in September 2010 and put it in the courtyard on the shaded side. It got scale and covered by a Fatshedera and slowly dwindled. The leaves went black and fell off and I finally decided it was close enough to dead to remove it.
