Description: 

Pseudobulbs. Need well-drained soil and shade in the afternoons. Purple flowers in later spring to summer.

Origins in southern Japan and China.

Published in Bot. Zeitung (Berlin) 36: 75 in 1878.

Basionym Limodorum striata Thunb.

'Striata' refers to the leaves which are shallowly pleated and striate (marked with parallel lines).

My Experience: 

I purchased an 8" pot at a plant swap in May 2008 and planted it in the courtyard in summer 2009. They have bloomed reliably in early April each year and the clump has slowly expanded. I moved some to the Daylily Fountain Garden and some to the Big Trees & Birds garden.
