Description: 

Arching branches. Pink fuzzy flowers in summer followed by small, shiny, dark purple berries in large clusters. Large green leaves, yellow autumn color. Woodlander's says needs "good garden soil". Camforest says moist, well-drained.

History: 

Published in Nov. Gen. Sp. (H.B.K.) 2: 252 in 1818.

Native to Mexico and South America.

Collected by Lynn Lowery in Mexico for sale in the US.

My Experience: 

I purchased a 1 gallon plant from McMahan's in July 2012 and planted it in the Big Trees and Birds garden. It did not leaf out in spring 2013.
