Glossy dark green leaves with a yellow green center. Blooms in late winter, pink single flowers with yellow anthers. Slightly more cold hardy than Camellia japonica. Bushy, upright form.
Found among several plants labelled 'Mary Christian' at the RHS gardens at Wisley, Uk. Since Mary Christian is not variegated, it was renamed.
I purchased a 1-gallon plant at Woodlanders in Oct 2011 and planted it in the Camellias And More garden. It did very little for a while but finally had a small growth spurt in summer to autumn 2013.
