Description: 

Alternate, pinnately compound leaves, 5 to 7 leaflets, to 12". Narrow to round crown. Likes moist, well-drained soil.

History: 

Published in Gen. N. Amer. Pl. (Nuttall) 2: 221 in 1818.

Basionym is Juglans tomentosa Lam.

Synonym is Juglans alba L. - Linnaeus cites Catesby's Natural History Volume I Plate 38.

Native to eastern and central US.

Introduced to cultivation in 1766.
