Registered and originated by Fournier in 1897.
In Dict. Icon. Orchid. Cattleya hybrid #21 (1904) Cattleya x massiliensis is said to be a cross between Cattleya trianae and Cattleya dowiana var. aurea, produced by Fournier in Marseille in 1896. In Bull. Misc. Inform. Kew Appendix II 1898, it is listed as a new plant of 1897 and is said to be:
A garden hybrid of which Laelia crispa and C. trainee are the probable parents... (Louis-Fournier, Marseilles).
The International Orchid Register lists Cattleya Massiliensis (1897) and Cattleya Massiliensis (1897) both as synonyms. The accepted Grex for Cattleya trianae x Cattleya crispa is Cattleya Massiliensis (1897).
