Description: 

Alternate, shiny dark green thick and leathery, almost round leaves. Small greenish-white flowers in clusters at the leaf axils. Fruit is a round white to pale pink drupe, to 1.5", edible.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 513 in 1753.

Native to Florida, the Caribbean and South America.

Also published in Gard. Dict., ed. 8 in 1768 and referenced to Catesby's Natural History Volume I Plate 25.
