Category: Shrub - Evergreen

Zones: 7b to 9

Size: To 6' tall, slightly less wide

Description:

New leaves have a pink tint, maturing to dark green with cream-white margins. Inconspicuous yellow flowers.

History:

Introduced from Japan around 1860 by Robert Fortune. Also known as 'Variegata'.

My Experience:

I purchased a 3-gallon 'Variegata' plant from Nurseries Caroliniana in September 2009 and planted it inside the pool fence by the retaining wall. It struggled through the late summer and died over the winter. I purchased a 1-gallon plant from them again in August 2013 under the label 'Tricolor' and planted it in the Camellias And More garden.
