Description: 

Evergreen to semi-evergreen, leaves long and leathery, rough. Blooms in late spring with cream to pale yellow bracts. Strawberry-like berries in autumn. Dislikes the heat and humidity of the southeast and performs best in sheltered west coast climates.

Published in Fl. Ind. (Carey & Wallich ed.) 1: 434 in 1820.

Native to China, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Bhutan.

Introduced to the UK in 1825. RHS Award of Garden Merit for flowers in 1922 and for fruit in 1974.
