Description: 

Warm season grass. Huge, feathery plumes in late summer and autumn. Foliage evergreen in mild climates. Drought tolerant once established. Cut back in winter (February) to remove old foliage and seed stalks.

Many cultivars with different sizes and some variegated:

'Albolineata' ('Silver Stripe') - white striped foliage, white plumes, zone 8

'Andes Silver' - silver plumes, zone 6

'Aureolineata' ('Gold Band') - marginal yellow stripes give and overall yellow green appearance, white plumes, zone 8, 6' tall

'Bertini' - 3' tall, white plumes

'Patagonia' - 6' tall, silver plumes, bluish foliage, zone 6

'Pumila' - 5 to 6', zone 7

'Rosea' - pink plumes, 10' tall, zone 8

'Sunningdale Silver' - from Europe, 8 to 9' tall, outstanding silver plumes, zone 7

'Monvin' (Sun Stripe™) - from Monrovia, yellow variegated leaves

'Pink Feather' - large pink tinted plumes, zone 8

'White Feather' - large white plumes, zone 8

Native to Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
