Description: 

Broadly columnar to pyramidal form. Leaves awl-shaped and densely crowded on long, slender branchlets. Blue-green color with bronzing in winter. Small terminal cones. Best with protection from strong winds.

Cultivars: 

'Beaumont's Dwarf' - pyramidal dwarf

'Giokumo' - densely pyrmidal to 10' tall

'Little Jewel' - Clemson

History: 

Native to Japan, discovered there by Kaempfer in 1692. Cultivated in China. Introduced to England in 1842 and the US in 1861.
