My Experience:

I purchased a 1-gallon plant at Nurseries Caroliniana in autumn 2007 and potted it up until planting in the ground in the Daylily Fountain Garden in summer 2009. It has grown slowly but steadily and retained its rounded neat form. No browning in winter.
