X Cattlianthe Wendlandiana

Wendlandiana Cattlianthe

Family: Orchidaceae

Genus: Cattlianthe

Category: Houseplant

Description:

From Orchid Rev.: This is a beautiful hybrid raised by Messrs. James Veitch and Sons, of Chelsea, from Cattleya Bowringiana and C. Warscewicsii, whose character it combines in a very charming way. The flowers are' a great improvement of those of the mother plant, to which they bear much resemblance, but the lip is much more expanded, and bears a pair of yellow blotches in the throat, as in the pollen parent. The brilliant rosy purple of the two parents is naturally reproduced in the hybrid, which flowered for the first time ,n the autumn of 1S90. C. Bowringiana is both free growing and very floriferous, and the hybrid is likely to show the same character. It is a very promising plant, and is dedicated to Herr Wendland, of Herringhausen.
