Description: 

Scale-like foliage, lemon scented, in erect plumes. Cones light brown, to 1.5" diameter. Cone shaped becoming broader and spreading with age.

History: 

Published in J. Hort. Soc. London 2: 187 in 1847.

Native to California.

Collected by K.T. Hartweg, sample 143 in Monterey, CA in 1846-7: Cupressus macrocarpa, No. 143, attaining the height of 60 feet, and a stem of 9 feet in circumference, with far-spreading branches, flat at the top like a full-grown cedar of Lebanon, which it closely resembles at a distance.
