Description: 

For bog gardens, in ponds or moist soils. Unlike other Papyrus it does not have umbrella-like inflorescences. Tall, thin, arching, rich green leaves, give a grassy effect. Contrasting reddish-brown spikelets in late summer. Rampant spreader.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 45 in 1753.

Native to tropical Africa, South Africa, the Canary Islands and Madeira, temperate and tropical Asia and much of Europe.
