Description: 

No basal leaves, the inflorescences at the end of the stems form umbels which can be 1' across. Grows in water. Rhizomatous. Clumping. Sometimes sold as C. giganteus 'Mexico'.

History: 

Native to Africa and used to make the papyrus the Egyptians wrote on.

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 47 in 1753.
