Family: Araliaceae

Genus: Eleutherococcus

Parent: Eleutherococcus sieboldianus

Category: Shrub - Deciduous

Zones: 4 to 9

Size: 6 to 8' tall and wide, (most in 4 to 5' range)

Growth Rate: Moderate

Exposure: Filtered Sun, Part Shade

Description:

Interesting open form, thorny. Easy to grow and not fussy as to soil. Light pruning when young will make it more compact. Variegated green and white foliage.

History:

Introduced from Leiden, The Netherlands in 1860 by P.F. Siebold.

My Experience:

I purchased a 1-gallon plant from Piccadilly Farm in May 2007 and potted it up to a 3-gallon. In summer 2009 I planted it by the helipad. It is in full sun until mid-afternoon and has performed well, perhaps a little sunburn but not significant.
