The leaves of this species, discovered by Mr. J. Niven in Hottentots Holland, are dark green, tinged with red where most exposed to the sun: they are crowded on a very short stem, only 3/4ths of a line broad, 4 to 7 inches long, almost linear, acute, rough when old, their under side concave. Bractes spatulated. Petals woolly.
