Description: 

Thistle-like blue flowers with pincushion centers and steel blue bracts in early summer. Serrated foliage, blue-green, in rosettes. Attractive to butterflies (Oudolf).

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 233 in 1753.

Native to Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Italy and France.
