From Ted Stephens: "This is by far the best variegated form of this genus that I have ever seen. I found this cultivar in a garden center in Angyo, Japan, near Tokyo. Each leaf has a dramatic broad white margin which makes a striking accent in the shade garden. I have one other cultivar of this plant which has narrow white margins, but none are as dramatic as this one. I have never seen this cultivar offered in the U.S."

My Experience:

I purchased a 1-gallon plant from Nurseries Caroliniana in October 2010 and planted it by the garage side. I covered it at night in the winter if the temperatures were going below freezing and it came through the winter with no damage, some discoloration. In spring and summer 2011 it grew steadily and I put a couple of stakes in to hold it up. It bloomed in October 2012.
