Description: 

Dark green, glossy foliage, to 6" long, paler below. White flowers with a gold center, to 3" diameter, in late spring to summer. Narrow, pyramidal form. Not drought tolerant.

History: 

Native to the southeast coast US, from Florida to North Carolina, found in wetlands.

Published in Philos. Trans. 60: 253 in 1771.

Basionym is Hypericum lasianthus L. - Lectotype = "Alcea Floridana quinque capsularis Laurinis foliis, leviter crenatis, seminibus coniferarum instar alatis" in Catesby's Natural History Volume I Plate 44.
