History: 

Published in Select. Stirp. Amer. Hist. 96 in 1763.

Synonym Hillia longiflora Sw., also published by Andrews in Bot. Repos. 3: 145 in 1801. This species of Hillia was first introduced to our gardens in the year 1789, from the Island of Barbadoes, fsent in plants, by Mr. J. Elcock, to Messrs. Lee and Kennedy, Hammersmith.
