Other: Shurbs and trees of all sizes. Juvenile foliage is fine and sharply pointed with spirally arranged needles but adult foliage is flat and scale-like. Lectotype: J. communes L. (Britton and Brown in Ill. Fl. N. U.S. (Britton & Brown), ed. 2 1: 65. 1913.)
