Variable species from prostrate shrub to small tree. Characterized by nodding tips to the shoots and awl-shaped leaves with bluish appearance in whorls of 3. Not well adapted to the heat and humidity of the southeast.
Native to the Himalaya mountains, Afghanistan and China.
Introduced to Britain in 1824 and the US in 1836.
Published in Descr. Pinus v.2 p.17 in 1824 and in ed.3 #66 in 1832.
This new species of Juniperus is only met with at great elevations on the Himalaya Range, in situations where the snow lies during a great part of the year.
