Description: 

Variable species from prostrate shrub to small tree. Characterized by nodding tips to the shoots and awl-shaped leaves with bluish appearance in whorls of 3. Not well adapted to the heat and humidity of the southeast.

History: 

Native to the Himalaya mountains, Afghanistan and China.

Introduced to Britain in 1824 and the US in 1836.

Published in Descr. Pinus v.2 p.17 in 1824 and in ed.3 #66 in 1832. This new species of Juniperus is only met with at great elevations on the Himalaya Range, in situations where the snow lies during a great part of the year.
