Description: 

Leaves alternate to 8", short lobes. Yellow autumn color. Tulip-shaped, green-yellow blossoms in spring. Soft wood and aggressive roots. Moist, well-drained soil.

History: 

Native from Florida to New England.

Published in Sp. Pl. 1: 535 in 1753. Linnaeaus cites Catseby's Natural History Volume I Plate 48.
