Description: 

Lythrum with a shrubby stem. Leaves opposite, alternate, and lance-shaped. Flowers grow in clusters from the axillae of the leaves in irregular numbers. Blossoms trumpet-shaped, of a scarlet colour. (Bot. Repos.)

History: 

Published in Syst. Nat., ed. 10 1045 in 1759.

Basionym of Woodfordia fruticosa (L.) Kurz.

Also published in Bot. Repos. 7: 467 in 1807. It grows wild in the northern provinces of Hindostan.
