Description: 

Large leaves to 24" long, silvery underneath. Shrub-like growth habit. Large white flowers, to 10" diameter, with a purple splotch at the base. Prefers good soil and shelter from winds, some afternoon shade might be preferred also. Good drainage and uniform moisture.

History: 

Published in Rhodora 28: 35 in 1926.

Native to the Florida, US.

Accepted by ARS-Grin and Tropicos. PlantList (based on Kew) says the accepted name is Magnolia macrophylla var. ashei (Weath.) D.L.Johnson.
