Description: 

Alternate, simple leaves, from 12 to 32" long, light green - hence the name Big leaf. Leaves are silvery below. Flowers to 10" diameter, white with purple markings in the center, in summer, fragrant. The form of the tree is very open and upright, eventually having a rounded head.

Native to the eastern US. Introduced in 1800.
