Category: Vine - Evergreen

Zones: 7 to 10

Size: 10 to 15' tall or more

Description:

Large clusters of reddish purple flowers in summer. Bright green compound leaves. Moist well-drained soil. Semi-evergreen in cool climates. Bushy vining habit.

History:

No publication or author information available for this species but widely published in the trade under this name and no synonyms listed.

My Experience:

I purchased a 2-gallon plant from Nurseries Caroliniana in April 2013 and planted it by the arbor in the Screen Porch Garden. It did not bloom or grow much in the summer and in the cold winter of 2014 it died back. I dug it up and potted it in case it would come back. It produced new leaves in the conservatory but then dried out and died.
