Description: 

From Bot. Repos. Moraea with a round flower stem ; the leaves grow from the root, are lance-shaped, channelled, and longer than the flower stem; the flowers are terminal, and three-coloured.

Pink, red, purple or yellow flowers are short-lived, fragrant. Yellow nectar guides on the outer tepals.

History: 

Published in Bot. Repos. 2: 83 in 1800.

Native to South Africa. Introduced from the Cape in 1799 (Bot. Repos.)
