Compound leaves with 7 to 15 leaflets, oval, very small, entire. Leaves fern-like. Hawthorn-like flowers in late spring followed by red fruits.

History: 

Published in Ann. Mus. Bot. Lugduno-Batavi 1: 250 in 1864.

Native to China and Japan.

Introduced to England in 1894.
