Description: 

Whitish terminal buds and dark green leaves. Fascicles of 2. Bark becomes dark purple-grey when mature, with fissures. Well-drained soil.

Cultivars: 

'Banshosho' - to 5' tall and wide, slow grower, dwarf, 2 to 4" per year, light green needles.

History: 

Published in Prodromus (A. P. de Candolle) 16(2.2): 388 in 1868.

Native to Japan and Korea.
