Description: 

Alternate leaves, dark green, shiny above, paler and blotchy orange below, pointed apex. Pyramidal with narrow crown. Moist to wet soils.

History: 

Published in Sp. Pl. 2: 1034 in 1753. Linnaeaus cites Catseby's Natural History Volume I Plate 34 but this is now believed to be a drawing of Populus heterophylla.
