Published in Fl. Cap. (Harvey) 5: 603 in 1912.

Native to South Africa.

Named for Willian John Burchell, an English explorer and naturalist.

Synonym = Protea pulchella Andrews, Protea pulchella var. undulata E.Phillips, Protea pulchra Rycroft, plant://ProtSubp] Stapf.
