Description: 

Protea with lance-shaped leaves, waved and hairy. Scales of the empalement roundedly oval, with fringed margins of a black brown colour. Stem spreading. (Bot. Repos. - P. speciosa var. nigra)

Published in J. S. African Bot. 40(4): 297 in 1974.

Native to South Africa.

Basionym Erodendrum holosericeum Salisb. ex Knight.

Synonym Protea patens R.Br.

In Trans. Linn. Soc. London 10: 82 in 1810 R.Br. shows Protea speciosa var. patens Andrews as a synonym of Protea patens R.Br. which is now considered a synonym of P. holosericea.
