Protea strobilina Thunb.

Family: Proteaceae

Genus: Protea

History:

Published in Diss. Protea #44 in 1781. The cones of this shrub are often as big as a man's fist. Mr. J. Niven found it...

Brown lists it as a synonym of Leucadendron ovale R.Br. in Trans. Linn. Soc. London 10: 59 in 1810 which would make the accepted name Leucadendron globosum (Andrews) I.Williams.

Also listed in Cult. Prot. with P. strobilina? Linn. Mant. p. 192 - suggesting Salisb. believed that the male was Thunb.'s P. strobilina but there was some question as to whether the female was L.'s - which is now considered a synonym of Leucadendron strobilinum (L.) Druce.
